Weekly News Roundup - Week 39

Laois Novice Cross Country 01.10.2017

Rosenallis/Kilcavan A.C. were the host club for day 1 of Cross Country season.  Thanks to all involved in what was a very successful day of racing.  The conditions were particularly difficult with very soft underfoot conditions due to rain in days running up to the event.  Thankfully the rain held off for the most part on Sunday.    First up was a non-championship race with medals provided by host club to first ten across the line. Our only competitor was Grace Cuddy running her first Cross Country race.

U10 girls were next up and Emma Jane Cuddy took this race out and was in the lead for first half and finished in 3rd position, followed by FiFi Ncube in 9th position.

U10 Fionn Cuddy ran a great race and was in the lead, while running with only one spike, he ran a great race and finished in 2nd place, followed by Darragh Brady in 18th and Cormac O Connor 21st.

U12 Girls Caoimhe Cuddy, Leah Smullen, Doreann O’Connor and Aoife Cuddy were our first team of the day and all ran very well finishing in 5th, 12th 19th and 22nd just losing out by 1 point to claim 3rd place.

U12 Boys.  We had Keon Donoghue, Jack Fennell was 15th, Ben Toomey 18th and Theo Admas 19th all running very well representing their club some for the first time at cross country.

U14 girls.  As is normal every year the numbers start dwindling as the age categories go up and our only competitors were Grace Meade in 13th and Maya Adams in 17th position.

U14 boys. Conor Brady 14th and Fionn Donoghue 15th.

U16 girls Siofra Marum was our single competitor well done Siofra.

U18 boys. The last of the juvenile events was the U18 race and yet you have to be over 19 to run Novice.  That’s probably a gap that needs to be looked at.  We had first timer David Faulker and Luke Gibney run and the more experienced Tirenan Marum.  Well done guys.

Novice Ladies were Anna Duggan 6th, Maria Cuddy, 7th Norah McGrath, 9th and Aoife Conroy 12th.  All girls ran a very strong race and finished in 2nd place. Well done to all and especially Aoife on her first Cross Country, first of many to come.

Novice Men had 3 running Patrick Marshall, Paul Cuddy fresh off the GAA pitch and Sean Donoghue another first timer running cross country.

Portlaoise Athletes on tour

Not all of our athletes were knee deep in muck this weekend. Sinead and Niall were on their travels again on the VHI roadshow at the Ballincollig ParkRun Saturday morning as parkrun tourists. They then ran in the BHAA Cork to Cobh 15mile road race the following morning in 2hrs 2mins for Niall and 2hrs 34mins for Sinead. That is super running from both.  Well done to you both a very inspiring couple. your social media marketing partner
