Downeys Nissan Laois Intermediate Road Race Championships 2017

There was great numbers on show for Portlaoise A.C at the Laois County Intermediate Road Race in Vicarstown on the 19th of February, 18 juveniles, 7 senior ladies and 4 senior men. Both Men and Women won second team and many Juveniles went home with medals.

The men’s race was highly competitive with Tom Lupton following on from fine performance in this year’s novice road race providing us with an exciting finish for second place in this year’s intermediate Road Race. Portlaoise men claimed second team led by Tom, Patrick Marshall (7th), Paul Cuddy (11th), and Trevor McCormack (13th).

Joanne Carroll for the ladies today continued her fine running to date and finished third overall. The ladies won team silver missing out on gold by only 2 points to St Michaels. The team was led home by Joanne (3rd), Maria Cuddy (7th), Anna Duggan (8th), Catherine Ryan (11th), Olwyn Larkin (16th), Niamh Kavanagh (20th) and Amanda McDonald (21st). Our supporters played a great part as they were widely spread out over the last Kilometre.

The Juvenile race programme is becoming very popular addition to these County race Programme. We had a super turnout with our Juveniles and each and every one of them should be very proud. Medals were presented to the first 6 in each race, giving juveniles plenty of medal opportunities.
