Weekly News Roundup - Week 42/2018

Autumn International Open Cross Country

The National complex im Abbottstown was the setting for the Autumn International held on Sunday 21st October, featuring some top class fields. We had five entries, Mary Mulhare, Colm Fitzgerald, Cyril Cuddy ,Tony Reilly and Aengus Burke . The course was in superb condition, leading to some very fast running . Mary was first in action, staying with the main bunch at the start and eventually finishing 8th overall, a fantastic placing in this event, no surprise considering her form of late. The masters men was next , and again this took off at a lightening pace, resulting in many athletes having to pull out later in the race. Tony put in a superb performance, finishing 4th in the O/45 section to secure his place on the Irish team for next month's international race in Swansea. Next home was Cyril with another trade mark quality run , while Colm , running this event for the first time, was next in line, continuing his return to form after a lay off this year. Aengus finished 7th in the 0/50 section, putting him on the stand by list for Swansea.

We had 5 runners in this new local race on Sunday, and all were amount the top finishers. After their cross country exploits last week Maria Cuddy and Anna Duggan returned to the road, and put in fine displays , Maria taking 1st ladies spot and Anna close behind in 3rd. In the men's James Hamm continued his comeback by securing 1st spot for the 3nd week in a row, while Richie Reid and Paul Cuddy also showed no hangover from last week's cross country by placing 3 and 4th respectively.

On a beautiful Saturday morning last we had a fine bunch in action, the two Joe's, Walsh and Breen were our first men home. The Howsons were out in force also, Sheena, Cormac and Peter, like wise the Kavanaghs, Madeline and Niall. Charlie Walsh continued the family link by joining her dad, while Noreen McEvoy and Clare Cosgrove completed or crew. To add to that Lucy Dunne and Sinead Curtis helped with the organising of the event. Massive stuff all round. your social media marketing partner
