Ladies Masters Road Race – Portarlington April 8th
Sunday last saw the red and white out in force as 12 of our senior ladies took on the tough 3k route on a very warm morning in Portarlington. Lisa Sweeney from St. Michaels led the race from the start but was closely followed by our own Sharon Grant who never let her out of her sight. Paula Grant had a tough battle over the first kilometre with Colette English from St. Abban’s and Monica Corcoran from St. Michaels but had enough strength to hold off her competitors and take a convincing third place. In these races every place is crucial and very strong performances by the rest of the girls in the field holding off ladies from other clubs secured a team silver made up of the two Grant sisters and Anna Duggan.
Other stand out performances on the day were from Anna Duggan who picked up an individual silver in her age category and Ursula O’Malley who was first lady home in hers. A special mention must go to Suzanne Miley who despite a fall was determined to get up and carry on and in doing so helped her fellow team members.
It was great to see so many on the road last week and in particular those who are just back from injuries. It’s a testament to all and a sign of things to come.
